Top 5 Secrets to Staying Consistent with Your Online Workouts

by | Jul 30, 2020

Working out at home can be super convenient. I mean, you can roll out of bed in your PJs 5 minutes before class starts and just hit that link and boom you’re in class. But this same situation that makes it super convenient is also what makes it super easy to skip a workout when you aren’t totally motivated to get out of bed that day. There’s also that element of “I can just do it later”, but before you know it, it’s dinner time and you feel like time just got away from you which turns into, “I’ll do it tomorrow”. Then, the cycle starts all over again!

Can anyone else relate?

Trust me, you aren’t the only one.

It’s hard enough to be accountable when you schedule a workout and have to actually show up to a location. So how do you stay accountable when no one else is watching and it’s just you and your computer?

  1.  Determine Your Why – you’re going to have to dig deep for this one. It’s great if you want to be healthy, but generic answers   like that aren’t going to get you up off the couch and hit that link when you just don’t feel like it. So, try to dig a little deeper…   WHY is health and fitness important to you? What do you get out of it?

2. Figure Out Your Goals – this one goes hand in hand with determining your “why.” Once you know why you’re working out, you can design your goal around that. But, if you want to be consistent, it’s important to have a clear reason why you’re doing it and what you want to get out of it. It doesn’t have to be anything super deep—maybe your goal is consistently moving your body 5 days per week. That’s a valid goal.

  1. Make a Weekly Schedule – what time of day can you consistently show up for yourself? When you do have the most energy and feel the most productive? These are the best times to schedule your online workouts, whether they’re live-streamed or on demand. Your schedule has to work for you and your body. Be sure to put your workouts on your calendar, just like you would with any other appointment you make.

 4. Set Your Clothes Out – planning for an early AM workout? Set yourself up for success by setting out your clothes the night   before. I used to have a client who slept in her workout clothes so all she had to do was roll out of bed in the morning…find what works for you!

  1. Review Your Progress – you have to make time for that accountability check-in. It can be hard to call yourself out on your BS, but this is arguably the most important part. If you don’t review your progress, you can’t get better. Remember, there’s no failure, only feedback. It can be tough, but let the feedback each week help you evaluate your goals and realign your behavior to match them. Trust me, it’s worth it.

Alright, my friends, go get that at-home fitness on…and let me know if you need help figuring out realistic goals or determining your why. Most importantly, remember, it’s small wins each day that add up to big success.
